What a clinic website needs in 2026
A clinic website needs each doctor's days and fees, online booking with WhatsApp reminders, and pages that follow the NMC's October 2026 rules.
What a clinic website needs in 2026 is simple: each doctor's days, fees and an online Book button, plus WhatsApp reminders. It must also follow the NMC's new advertising rules and collect as little patient data as possible.
Picture a dental clinic in Salt Lake (an example, not a real client). A new patient finds it on Google Maps at 10 pm, on a phone, with a toothache. If they can't see the doctor's days, the fee and a Book button within seconds, they try the next clinic.
What a clinic website needs first: five answers
Put these five on the home page, or one tap away. Get them right before anything else.
- Who the doctors are. Full name, qualifications as registered, specialty, and State Medical Council registration number. Photos are optional.
- When each doctor sits. Many Kolkata chambers have doctors on set days. Write "Dr. Basu: Mon, Wed, Fri, 6 to 9 pm", not just the clinic's hours.
- The fee. The consultation fee in plain numbers, and the follow-up fee if it differs.
- Where you are. Address with floor and landmark, a map link, lift and parking notes, and the nearest metro station.
- How to book. An online Book button, a phone number someone answers, and your WhatsApp number if you use one.
Let patients book a time, not just call
During OPD hours the phone is busy, and many patients try to book in the evening. An online booking page helps only if it does three things well.
- Shows real free times. The patient picks a doctor or "any doctor" and sees only free times. Two patients can never take one slot.
- Confirms and reminds. A WhatsApp confirmation straight away and a reminder the day before, with an easy way to cancel.
- Lets plans change. A link to move or cancel within your rules, say up to four hours before. A waiting list then fills the freed slot.
Offer the booking page in Bengali and Hindi as well as English. Older patients book more easily in their own language. Doctor and clinic names stay as you write them.
Not ready for online booking? A short "call me back" form is a fair start. Just make sure someone calls back the same day.
What the NMC allows on a clinic website
In October 2026 the National Medical Commission issued guidelines on advertising for doctors and hospitals, with immediate effect (Medical Dialogues, as of November 2026). This is what they mean for your site.
| Allowed | Not allowed |
|---|---|
| Doctor list with qualifications, registration and availability | Patient testimonials, even with consent |
| Fees, if factual and not misleading | "Before and after" photos and surgical results |
| Clinic hours, services and address | "Best doctor", "No.1", unless objectively verifiable |
| Plain facts about treatments | "Guaranteed cure", "100% success", "painless" |
| Discounts or offers likely to push unneeded treatment |
This is a summary, not legal advice. If you're unsure about a line, read the notice itself or ask your council. The safe rule: state facts, make no promises.
Collect less patient data, and say why
India's Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on 13 November 2025. The notice and consent rules apply from 13 May 2027 (AZB & Partners, as of November 2026). Set your site up properly now, not in a rush next year.
- Ask only what booking needs: name, phone, doctor and time. Never ask for symptoms, reports or prescriptions in a web form or chat.
- Add a short notice by the button: what you collect, why, how long you keep it, how to withdraw, and a link to your privacy page.
- Skip tracking cookies. With no advertising trackers, you need no cookie banner.
Make it fast, findable and yours
Many patients use mobile data on an older phone. Keep text as text, not inside pictures. Use big Call, WhatsApp and Book buttons, and no autoplay video or pop-ups.
Test your mobile score on Google's free PageSpeed Insights. Then open the site on your own phone, outdoors, and try to book.
Better still, hand your phone to an older relative and ask them to book a slot. Watch where they hesitate, and fix that first.
Match your Google Business Profile exactly. Google asks that your name reflect the real-world name and that hours match what customers find (Google Business Profile Help, as of November 2026).
When a doctor's days change, update the site and the profile on the same day. Our guide to getting found on Google Maps covers the listing.
Finally, register the domain (yourclinic.in) in the clinic's or doctor's name, with your own email as the login. Our guide on leaving a web agency explains why.
What to ask whoever builds your site
Take these questions to any agency, including us.
- Whose name will the domain be registered in, and whose email is the login?
- Can patients pick a doctor and see only that doctor's free times?
- Do confirmations and reminders go on WhatsApp, and can patients cancel from them?
- Can a patient book in Bengali or Hindi?
- Will you check every page against the NMC guidelines before launch?
- What does each form collect, and where is the privacy notice?
- What does it cost to build, and what is the monthly fee? Get both in writing.
- If I leave, what do I keep?
